since I first heard Sazon Booyah’s La Bomba I thought they might be the duo to take Moombahton to the masses. at first it was their New York City market and their simple clean production that tends to eschew raveiness. soon their cuts off Heartbreak’s Moombahsoul volumes and Munchi’s Verano De Moombahton were getting heavier rotation than anything in my iPod. and now we have Moonlight EP. when i think about the next big dj, i think about consistent hitters that bloggers, ravers and sorority girls on Mill Avenue in Phoenix COULD get down to. it’s what Skrillex did with dubstep. it’s what Diplo does with global bass. and that’s what you have in Moonlight’s first two cuts, “Moonlight” and “Get That Beat.” extra points for original vocals from Anne Yvette. “Must Die,” the EP’s fourth and final cut — available for FREE download — has a silly, high energy hip hop vibe that makes it my favorite on the album. for all this talk about how they could take moombahton to the masses, the EP is 2 days old and has fewer than 1,000 plays. so maybe Dillon Francis, with Mad Decent backing, will still be the conduit to your local Delta Gamma’s iPod.
